When Government's Obsolete

A Glimpse Beyond Politics

For some, it's a strange idea...wait, government's becoming obsolete?! Still, when those with a firm grasp on the situation globally they go "oh, now I get it!"

Your species has a bit of a problem.

It's abilities are always evolving faster than it's moral maturity. But unlike the die hard cynic, like watchya, I perceive these social ills to be growing pains. Not the end of humanity, but perhaps still full of SNAFU.

Mentalist acer asked me what the philosophy and goals are of anarchists.

I'll be glad to share with you mine, and give you plenty of other groovy links so you can explore more.

Anarchy, isn't quite a form of government. And no, it's not chaos. It's more of a philosophy. Each one of us who carries the flag may have slightly altered differences, but that's the point: anarchy is about true freedom, but also true responsibility.

Anarchy: Faith?

As Jesse Hirsh explains above, we anarchists do have a big uphill battle. It seems your species is so fraught with self-inflicted wounds it does like to lash back at it's self, and how!

To call Anarchy a faith is not the worst misnomer someone could lay upon it. It certainly isn't chaos. It certainly isn't the end of the world.

What anarchy wishes upon all people is both the freedom to do as they wish, need, and please, but it also instills a responsibility to use this freedom on an individual basis. While some people, for example, may think knocking up a liquor store is a good idea (and morally great with them) I don't think any of us here can agree with that interpretation of such action.

So if there is no government to lay down our roads, police our streets, and put out our fires--who does it, then?

I must insist you refer back to my thoughts on decentralization of the school system, if you have any wonders how some of the finer points might work out.

Basically, the parts of government that are useful will always be around one form or another. It makes sense, to some degree, to lay down roads, to have fire fighters, a disaster team. Police, perhaps, but not so much.

Y'all gotta learn to arm yourselves.

Whether these parts are privatized or paid for by a collectively decided tax and rate, then that shall be it. Some police departments, for example, are already charging you, their employer, to even speak with a live person. How does $200 sound? Outrageous? Me, too.

I'm sure there's a much more effective cost to benefit ratio than that. But hey, someone's gotta pay for all the overhead, right?

Keep in mind, I have no hatred for the police. For the military, or for the government. I just can't morally separate many of the actions from the actions of a criminal.

In a system where-when only a select few have power, the rest are trampled on or shoved aside.

There's Always Democracy, Right?

Democracy is a really neat concept. It's been used a lot through out the years by many of your people. There's an idea that we can all have a system of checks and balances, and we the people, are able to vote on issues or for Representatives we believe will pass laws according to our wishes.

Democracy isn't an issue. The issue is those empowered to "run" such a system. There was once an "American Dream," and it can be seen in the cute nuclear fifties family. But, unknown to your species at the time, said dream arguably died many years before.

Before I explain the first mode of nightmare induction, let me explain the second: the Federal Reserve. Enacted in 1913 under the Federal Reserve Act, this created a private corporation that watched over all the money that America laid it's hands on.

In theory, it was designed to put an end to financial market crashes. We all know how well that worked!

Perhaps utmost ominously, Woodrow Wilson expressed grief of having ever signed such a bill. He didn't realize his mistake before it was too late.

On that day America was no longer a democracy, but a new monster all together. A bit fascist, a bit socialist, and all corporate.

It's easy to believe you have a vote, but unfortunately, you don't. Money does.

And this is why the belief of any democracy in your country is quite...well, cute. Faith, I suppose. I've just moved on to a better one.

The first downfall of your species was the emergence of the Delaware Corporation. Before the 1800s, you see, all corporations were "chartered." They were created both for profit and for being "of public use." When the public ceased to see use from said corporation, it could be unchartered.

One may believe that this then, is not a very nice form of capitalism. And you'd be correct!

But neither is allowing a corporation to assume a "life," as if it was a separate entity made up of different people sitting on the board. You see, corporatehood and democracy are two ideas that contrast with one another.

You vote with your corporation, so why vote with your party?

You fear robots uprising, but your greed's already bit you in the ass, so to speak.

How do you make a monster? Profit!

Follow the Money, an alienUplink track!

So, What, I can't Be Rich?

Anarchy is not communism. We do believe that all individuals have a sacred right to better themselves, their family, community, and world.

People prone to anarchy are often those individuals who travel down a rather stoic path. Given this insight, then, we are not often materialistic. Oh, there's things I love. (Bacon, for example.)

However, in the grand scheme of things--my time here is a gift.

I shall not waste it.

I shall not waste it on such petty things as strife, fear, ignorance. I'm a jester, yes, I do oh love to stir things up, Derail them. But in a often comedic sense. I hate to see any mood become grave.

I dislike fighting. I can't say I've never retorted in a way I wasn't proud of, but by in large, my whole scheme is to leave the world with as many friends and no enemies.

So, can you be rich? Sure! The question is, what truly makes you happy?

Morality and Those Who May Not Have It

With absolute power befalls absolute responsibility. Who, then, shall be responsible?

In a more cynical mind, I can present to you the fact that all are corruptible. This is why there are so many allusions to the greatness of heroes in your society. They are seen as untarnished, immutably great and just.

But just beyond the veil, we all have secrets. Some are shameful, guilt ridden. Others should not be secrets at all, but airing them out would possibly change our lives and disrupt society.

Morality is a funny, subjective consequence of playing together and building sand castles.

While I may believe there should be no direct government influence in our lives, social compacts and accords are plenty fine by me.

Anarchists don't wish to abolish law, rule, and order. We wish to abolish podiums, doublespeak, greed, and ineffectiveness. And these are all present in politics today.

For the sake of brevity I shall end my say here, but I promise to follow up with more elaborate explanations. There is technology present now that has superseded government.

I sometimes speak cryptically about your species being "on the edge," or "on the brink." And amidst all the cliche`, I do so to poke and prod. In reality, you've already passed this brink.

As an anarchist I don't feel dishevelled when one believes I'm wrong--that these ideas of ours can never happen. Because it's not a matter of faith, it's only a matter of opening your eyes.

It already has happened, and will continue to do so.

Your governments are growing obsolete.

So you may either cower in fear, and accept this change with discordance and disgust. Or you may rise to the occasion, make the best of it, and finally prove yourself...to, well, yourselves.

Until our next intersection in space-time,

Namaste*!

Not only is gonvernment obsolete,it's broke and going to die with a whimper.

I've held that anarchist are fighting a formula of self interest that has no beneficial value.

This is an Enlightening Post Lxxy.

My right to use Weed is illogicaly levied by an political entity that leans to the Big-Pharma and the money making drug enforcement:)!!

Hey acer! Glad you were enlightened. :)

Yes, drug policy is big with us. And any policy, really. We feel it morally irresponsible for a society to govern the individual. When you are entrusted with the responsibility of creating positive actions, you often are also wise enough to be courteous and kind to all those around you.

...no matter if you happen to smoke a jay. ;)

The argument of all the statists is that without government we would have groups of people fighting each other (wars), businesses (corporations) running rampant, despoliation of the environment, drugs everywhere, robbing, raping and pillaging, etc...

I sure am glad that "your" (those who are government fans, lackeys, and minions) pet set of ruling elites du jour is doing such a great job.

We have one of the most charming dictatorships in the world. There is no such thing for democracy for the poor. This "democracy" is for the haves. It's been that way for hundreds of years. "Businesses" have enslaved the people of this hemisphere. United Fruit Company, ETC.

@dabeaner: wait, so, without all these failures in governmental policy, the world would be even MORE full of the things you mention? I'm not sure...has anyone tried freedom and responsibility yet? ;) Thanks for your great comment! (ed. note: was going to use 'pithy,' but someone else has cornered the market...)

@Micky Dee:

I couldn't have said it better. Feel free to create your own company and all that jazz, just don't think you're going to do anything with the government with all that money and power---unless, of course, the rest of the have beens decide you're worthy. ;)
