Today I hope not to strike a nerve, to be called a mud slinger. Today I'm going to approach a topic that is as hot buttoned as a Klingon mating ritual.
I struggle to understand, and I'll never condone your species' views on Indoctrination.
Anyone who raises their kin to believe as they do is simply commiting an act of intolerance and ignorance...of brain washing.
To teach a child right from wrong is one thing, to indoctrinate them into a particular life style and belief system is another.

Anger and violation is all that much of recorded history shows you of your major religions. Behind the front of false gods, you've waged war amongst yourselves claiming to have some divine authority.
It's rather insane.
The definition of insanity is:
"To keep performing one action and expect to see different results."
Even in modern times many raise a fist at those from the east who came to burn down twin towers. A war between Man it is, but a war of God it is not.
Do you actually believe that which created all life condones the destruction of it?

In a world line I once visited, there wasn't much left. Those who awaited the end had been told by their religious figures that Armageddon was near, that a saviour would come down and take all those who were saved in the night.
Heaven was waiting for those with enough piety.
The schools were schools of theology, of mythology, of ideals printed by man's hand generations passed.
I spent a lot of time there, because it frustrated me to see sound mines born, corrupted from the time they could understand and speak with false words.
I stuck around long enough to see a giant object sparkle into view...they were too busy worshipping, not busy enough understanding reality and the actual truth of nature.
Came an asteroid, an "earth killer," and there I went.
I tried to cry for them....but how can you save children who were waiting for Daddy to come back and help them? Children waiting for the world to get better?

My religion is that of life, of love, of understanding.
Your religions are incongruent most often to this...or at least, the actions of those claiming to follow such beliefs.

Final Thoughts
The belief that one is right, the belief that there is anything called truth..has encapsulated your history, and has marred your species for generations.
The very idea that one can take a group of thoughts, much like this one, and call it TRUTH is a fallacy.

lxxy - is religion to blame for some individuals' power over others ... or is it the ignorance of those that blindy follow, that give the power. As k@ri rightly stated, this article is profound. Disturbing. More so because it's indicative of the world around us. What does our world really turn on? The answer may well be more horrifying than many are aware of.

Ixxy...humm...you have stirred up so many things for me...and I have no idea where to begin... To me whatever makes one have Faith in oneself is ok...as long as they don't try to change me...I believe there is a bigger power and it has been passed down, but through humans who tend to interpet things differently as time goes on...
There have been many many wrongs committed since people migrated to America, but by all involved...there is no ONE to blame...

I agree with your view...it is indoctrination I fear and condemn, but this is a record of what it has done. I believe in a consciousness, I believe that we are all reflections of something that wanted to know what it was to live..

Christopher: Yes, Jesus Camp is a disgusting representation of bad Christian values. The very idea that there is an armageddon, that there is a day of reckoning at hand has corrupted millions. They raise their children to belong to a false army, where upon they may wage war in the name of a false god.
But I do not fear...idiocy I believe will never win. But then again....this is a record of it. Perhaps since we know of this looming threat, we will be able to nip it in the butt.
uhm, wow is all i can say after reading this. as a native american myself, it is still incomprehensible to me how the tribes were practically wiped off the face of the earth and all in the name of religion. But "religion" i feel is man made and has been twisted and corrupted to fit one's needs and agenda. But you can believe in God or a supreme being and not be a fanatic or nut case.

I agree, with everything you've said. My beliefs are mine, and I share them--but do not foist them. It's not up to me to tell people who and what created us, because I don't know.
I know a lot about science, and how the world works--but science is split from it's self, walled off. It doesn't come back together to share it's findings.
What I do know is that life is a miracle, and that the very nature of our existence is not a mistake it seems. I mean, sure--it could be. But...usually, that which is complex is by no accident.
I apologize for what happened to your people..as they say, never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. It's unfathomable what the Europeans did to your heritage, to the land of everyone, and to the history books.

as i agree with your comments also. yep, stupid people in large groups can destroy just about anything they set their wee little brains upon. no need to apoligize for the past doings of someone else, as i try to hold no grudges, for i also have ancestors who unfortunatley were on the other side. and thanks for becoming a fan and the offer of friendship as one can never have too many friends.
It sometimes anger me too at what the churches have wrought when I reflect upon the many grievous atrocities they have performed. I'm not particularly anti-religion, but there has been a lot of evil done in heaven's name throughout history. The problem is that religion often is just another tool used to control people and further certain people's selfish agendas.
@yorkies: No problem, I can understand with having ancestors on both sides. It's great that different humans can learn to co-exist and propagate life together. ;)

I concur. I have no feelings with religion as a concept, the religions institutions I think are to be laid to blame. Give someone power, and they'll eventually decide to misuse it. Here's looking at you, Catholic Church.
The other issue, I believe, is turning your children into believers and followers. It's not particularly damaging, if done in small doses--but it will have adverse affects if taken to the extreme.
Not to say I've parenting skills, but if you are to find a truth in the religion your kinfolk follow it should come to you without pressure. I fear pressuring such things can breed resentment.
Then again, any religion that is intolerant of another proves it's lack of worth to begin with.

I think that indeed, we find the human mind blind to it's desire to understand a connection to "something," and to codify it's beliefs as to warrant it's paranoia--anti-homosexuality in the Muslim and Christian religions, for example.
But I'm also not entirely convinced of a belonging to "all" a "one," for reasons I've revealed before--the more we know of the quantum universe and string theory the idea that we are separated by space and form is hard to believe.
There is indeed a lot of CRAZY with religion1 If a religion does not comply and promote the Golden Rule - Love one another, Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, etc. -if this LAW above all laws, is not upheld - it's really more of a cult. You know like a political party like republican or democrat. Anyhoo- we really have to be kind to each other, care for one another, and support everybody! If not- we are uncivilized. Thank you!

Satan was a murderer from the beginning, the Bible says. What better guise than for Satan to wage his murderous troops upon the innocent in the name of his adversary, the LORD? WE AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET...
I think of Saul who was one of those 'religious leaders' who was on his way to arrest, if not kill true Christians ~ until he met the Lord Jesus on the way there. His name was changed to Paul who wrote several of the New Testament books.
May we cling to life, love and understanding that only comes through our Creator.
